COMEDIAN and radio host Meshel Laurie has some wise advice for her fellow Altona residents.
Last year, Ms Laurie shaved off her hair as part of the World’s Greatest Shave to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.
After her locks were lopped off, Ms Laurie raised more than $7000 for the charity.
As a co-host on Nova 100.3 FM’s national drive show Meshel, Tim & Marty, Ms Laurie’s hair-shaving journey was followed by listeners across the country.
Ms Laurie has encouraged other Hobsons Bay residents to take part in the World’s Greatest Shave 2013 appeal in March.
“I reckon everyone should shave their head at least once. It’s very liberating,” she said.
“But do it in summer. I had a very cold head this year.
“It’s good. I love it. I’ve had it cut a few times since the big shave.”
In addition to being on the radio every weekday afternoon, Ms Laurie leads a busy life.
She is a blogger, comedian, co-host of television show The Circle on Channel 10 and is also an ambassador for Ovarian Cancer Awareness.
Ms Laurie has appeared on television programs The Glass House, Rove Live, Good News Week and Adam Hills: In Gordon St Tonight.
The mother-of-two said she loved living in Altona.
“We’ve been in Altona for about a year,” she said.
“People say hi from time to time. All sorts of people recognize me because I’ve worked on a wide variety of things from Spicks and Specks and The Circle to Nova and The Project.”
Ms Laurie has also become accustomed to fans greeting her while she is out shopping in Altona.
“People are always very friendly so it’s not a problem. Altona’s a beautiful friendly place,” she said.
“It’s where I spend all my time so it’s where my best adventures happen.”
