BURNSIDE ballerina Mikayla Singarella loves nothing better than being on stage and dancing.

The nine-year-old has been a student at Dance Effects studio in Caroline Springs for five years and is trained in tap, jazz and ballet.

Mikayla admits that jazz is her favourite style of dance and thrives on learning new routines – and of course wearing new costumes.

“Jazz is my favourite because it’s more fun than the others,” she told Star.

“Sometimes it can be hard, but I enjoy that.”

The St Peter Chanel student said the best part of dancing was performing on stage, even if she did get a little nervous.

“I like concerts, sometimes I get nervous if I forget a move…but I just feel really happy and I feel really proud.”

Mother Lucy Singarella said dancing had boosted her daughter’s confidence and had many positive benefits, including socialising and exercising.

“When she’s on stage she’s a different person,” Lucy said.

“It’s like it’s where she belongs and she is always raring to go.”
