Searches in school

The Bill will empower principals and authorised teachers to lawfully search students who are suspected of carrying or storing harmful everday items.
“Put simply violent behaviour in the school yard will not be tolerated,” Mr Dixon said.
“These new powers will allow principals to take a pro-active and common-sense approach to making their schools safer for staff and students.”
Subject to Paliamentray debate in February, students may soon be asked to turn out his or her pockets or to unlock any locked bag or locker.
