ANGELIQUE Petrac is a contestant in the Miss Philippines Victoria Competition this year.
The 24-year-old will be competing against six other Filipino Victorians for the Crown.
Angelique said she’s competing in the pageant to raise money for the Filipino community and to embrace her ethnicity.
The Laverton resident was born in Australia to a Filipino mother and Turkish father.
Angelique said she’s proud of her Australian culture but is just as proud of her Filipino heritage.
“By being part of the Miss Philippines contest allows me to embrace my Filipino culture on my mum’s side,” she said.
“I do it for her as well because I want to keep my mother’s culture alive.
“I just want to be an example for other young people to strive for their dreams and be the best they can be.”
Angelique graduated last year from Victoria University last year with a double degree in Science and Psychology and presently works in administration.
In August Angelique will perform in a talent contest where she will sing for the title. Miss Philippines Victoria will be crowned in December.
