Superintendent Graham Kent, who oversees the Brimbank and Melton police service areas, last week confirmed he expected the station to be permanently open one day but not in the near future.
The comments come as residents and councillors renewed calls for the station’s opening hours to be extended to become a 24-hour operation.
Superintendent Kent told Star he was aware of the push but believed the station’s current opening hours were adequate.
“At this stage we haven’t decided when it will be open 24 hours,” Superintendent Kent said.
“I would imagine that it will happen in the future but not for some time.
“We will need to grow our numbers quite a bit before that happens.”
Superintendent Kent said although the Caroline Springs station is only open 16 hours a day, the area was serviced by the Melton Police Station, which runs a 24-hour response service.
“We do have a 24-hour police complex in Melton, which responds to incidents in Caroline Springs and we believe that is adequate for the time being.”
Melton Shire councillor Kathy Majdlik recently met with Western Metropolitan MP Bernie Finn to campaign for the station to be manned 24-hours, following concerns from residents.
