In for the chop

SAMURAI Karate Sunshine members stated their case for Australian selection at the Sydney International Karate Championships on recently.
The event was part of the selection process for the national karate team and attracted competitors from the Asia Pacific region and Europe.
Jessica Saveska, 15, won gold in the cadet kata division, silver in the cadet fighting weight division, and silver in the open weight cadet division.
Thomas Olsen, 18, claimed silver in the under-21 in weight division and silver in the senior men’s under 67kg.
Vincent Nguyen and Ellen Hunt also competed in the tournament but did not place.
The Australian open on 15 April is the next national selection event.
