Work is already underway to transform Deer Park’s Isabella Williams Memorial Reserve into a district park, while stage one will commence at Buckingham Reserve in Sunshine West in June.
Paul Younis, Brimbank Council’s General Manager of Infrastructure and Environment, told Star a total of three district parks were being upgraded this year, along with three suburban parks and 12 smaller neighbourhood playgrounds.
Playground equipment is currently being manufactured for Tom O’Brien Reserve and Kevin Wheelahan Gardens in Sunshine, with works scheduled to begin next month. Mr Younis said the strategy was running to plan, with almost 50 reserves set to be transformed by June this year.
Meanwhile, five kilometres of trails will have been constructed to link the park network along the city’s waterways.
Mr Younis said the program had been a success with residents visiting completed parks in unprecedented numbers.
“This program is creating a much more liveable Brimbank and is providing places all over the municipality for residents to have fun and relax,” Mr Younis said.
Playgrounds at King Edward Ave, Albion, Dempster Reserve, Sunshine North and Solomon Drive in Keilor are among those earmarked for an upgrade this year.
