FORMER Newport resident, Taryn Godley, has come back to her roots by opening a dance company based at The Substation.
Taryn, who has been training in dance for more than 25 years, had a good idea of what she wanted to bring to her own dance company.
“I taught in studios for 10 years and in high schools for five years,” she said.
“But like many people, you want to see how you would go working for yourself.
“I had a pretty specific idea of what was missing in other dance companies and what I wanted to do with my own.”
In particular Taryn offers workshops specifically designed to prepare students for VCE dance and tertiary studies and as a high school teacher in Hoppers Crossing, Taryn knows exactly what it’s like for VCE students.
Specialising in commercial and lyrical jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance styles Taryn’s passion for dance education saw her graduate with a bachelor of arts/secondary teaching, majoring in contemporary dance.
“I teach all styles of dance but my main focus is technique and contemporary jazz which is usually required in VCE dance.”
Taryn also has a passion for choreography that she hopes to share with her students.
“I can’t listen to music without choreographing something in my head.”
“Dancing is a part of me.”
