ALBION put in an early nomination for upset of the year on Saturday after the Cats smashed St Albans by 47 points.
Played at J.R. Parsons Reserve, last year’s Western Region Football League struggler managed to shut the Saints down throughout a defensively impressive first three quarters.
The Cats conceded just four goals to three quarter time.
At the other end of the ground, the big sticks were found with a lot more ease, with Albion booting 10.9 to open up a 41-point lead going into the final break.
Despite St Albans breaking the shackles in the last term and more than doubling their score for the day, the Cats remained on top.
Albion kicked five goals of its own to seal the impressive 15.11 (101) to 8.6 (54) win.
Saturday’s result sees Albion jump to fourth on the Division One ladder with a 1-1 win/loss record for the season.
Under new coach Marcus Barclay, the Saints are still looking for their first win of the season and are back in ninth.
Elsewhere in the WRFL, Deer Park continues to run through the competition.
The Lions smashed Werribee Districts by 89 points on the weekend, 24.16 (160) to 10.11 (71).
James Condos maintained his brilliant start to the season, kicking a bag of 10 goals while Bret Thornton booted four.
After just two weeks, Deer Park already boasts a percentage of 241.
Also, Hoppers Crossing secured its first win under coach Steve Kretiuk, upsetting Sunshine by 21 points.
After taking a four-point lead into quarter time, the Warriors continued to press their advantage.
Hoppers Crossing won the second term by 10 points and the third term by 11 points to hold a 25-point advantage at three-quarter time.
The damage could have been even worse for Sunshine with the Warriors having 15 more scoring shots at the final change.
Despite a last quarter fight back from the Kangaroos, Hoppers remained in control, sealing the 12.17 (89) to 10.8 (68) win.
