KEILOR DOWNS resident David Deakin is getting ready to ‘Run the Rock’ this year and rock his new form since taking part in the event last year.
Mr Deakin weighed 120 kilograms when he took part in the event this time last year, and has since dedicated himself to exercising and cleaning up his diet.
As a result of his dedication, he now weighs 80 kilograms and is ready to have another go at the fun run, hoping to knock off at least 30 minutes from his previous time.
“This is a much healthier and happier lifestyle,” Mr Deakin said.
The father of two admitted it was not easy to break old habits and juggle family time with exercise, but said he always found the time to exercise, even if it was at odd hours of the morning.
Since taking part in his maiden fun run, which was Run the Rock 2013, Mr Deakin decided to start participating in triathlons and joined the Elite Triathlon Performance Australian team.
He said his new journey was nothing but positive and also benefited his family.
“It’s brilliant … my family is happy, and the kids run around the house doing mini triathlons and they come to watch my races, so I think its setting a good role model for them,” he said.
“They’re not just sitting in front of the computer or eating hamburgers all day, they’re doing fun stuff.”
And Mr Deakin said he always tried to run his daughters Hunter and Phoenix across the finish line with him.
Run the Rock at Hanging Rock, supports the Cancer Council Victoria and will take place on 3 May 2014.
