SPOTSWOOD continued its impressive start to the 2014 Western Region Football League season, knocking off Altona by 81 points on the weekend.
The Woodsmen didn’t have it all their own way early though and were forced to work hard in a tough first quarter.
However, after taking a seven-point lead into the opening break, Spotswood broke down the Vikings’ resistance.
Across the next three quarters, the Woodsmen piled on 17.13, while restricting Altona to just 6.5.
The dominating effort across the ground proved more than enough to seal the 21.17 (143) to 9.8 (62) win.
Former Western Jet David Iaccarino was a star for Spotswood, booting three goals and winning a lot of the ball around the ground.
He was well supported by Sam Myors and Christian Elliott who were also among the Woodsmen’s best.
For Altona, Jordan Robbins was the leading goal scorer with three majors.
Saturday’s result maintains Spotswood’s unbeaten start to the division one season.
After beating Port Melbourne in round one, the Woodsmen are in second spot on the ladder, only behind Deer Park.
The news isn’t as good for the Vikings, who drop back to eighth with a 1-1 win/loss record.
When round three gets under way, next week, Spotswood will take on St Albans while Altona will meet Yarraville.
