Crime crackdown in the West nets 12 offenders

DETECTIVES from the Footscray Crime Investigation Unit have issued 75 charges to 12 offenders in a two-day crackdown on crime in the West.
The 10 males and two females, ranging in age from 14 to 19, were arrested last Tuesday and Wednesday in relation to a number of armed robberies, burglaries, thefts of motor vehicle, pursuits, assault of a police dog and other thefts over the past fortnight.
The alleged offences occurred in a number of suburbs in Melbourne’s west including Laverton, Maribyrnong, Sunshine, Avondale Heights, Braybrook, Hoppers Crossing, Ravenhall, Footscray, Maidstone and Melton.
It is believed tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of stolen goods were recovered after warrants were executed in relation to the incidents.
A number of those arrested have since faced a children’s court and Sunshine Magistrates’ Court in relation to these matters.
Maribyrnong Local Area Commander Inspector Tony Long said the result highlighted the good work being done between local units.
“Police from Footscray, Wyndham, the Dog squad and other specialised police units have all been involved in this investigation in order to achieve this significant outcome,” he said.
The investigation into these matters is ongoing.
