ONE Hobsons Bay resident’s dreams could be a whisk away.
Tregan Borg from Altona Meadows has made it into the top 24 of television leviathan Masterchef.
The social worker said she has always been a huge fan of the show and an avid cook.
“Food has always played a huge role in my life, especially in regards to my Maltese heritage and family,” she said.
“I have worked in various cafe’s in the past as a barista and waitress, but never in the kitchen.
“The chef’s always had to kick me out as I was constantly sticking my nose in their business.”
Despite not yet having a signature dish, the 25-year-old has credited the western suburbs’ multiculturalism for her knowledge of food.
“I am extremely proud and privileged to have grown up in the western suburbs.
“It has most definitely opened up my eyes to the multicultural world of food.
“Footscray is one of my regular haunts whether I am eating pho or walking through the markets, I know I can always find my Middle Eastern delights at the circle in Newport, and always get my Italian goodies from Altona North Fresh Centre.
“What more could a lover of food ask for than to live in this cultural hub that is the western suburbs.”
Tregan said if she won the competition she would use the prizemoney to fund a centre or program to teach disadvantaged and high risk youths how to cook.
“It is my dream to be able to use food in a way that can assist in changing people’s lives in more ways than one – teaching basic cooking and life skills, and providing individuals with the power of knowledge to change their lives in a positive way.”
