Bridge link call

WESTERN Metropolitan Region MP Cesar Melhem has called on the State Government to fund the completion of the Calder Park Drive bridge.
Speaking in parliament last month Mr Melhem called on the Napthine Government to finalise the project which requires less than $3 million in funding.
Mr Melhem said when the new suburbs of Caroline Springs, Taylors Hill and Burnside were developed, it was assumed that Caroline Spring Boulevard and Calder Park Drive would connect to the Calder Freeway and the Western Highway.
“I note that Caroline Springs Boulevard has been completed. Calder Park Drive is nearly complete – indeed it has been nearly complete for the last two years,” he said.
“We are still awaiting the connecting bridge over Kororoit Creek, and I believe the cost of completing this project is less than $3 million.”
Mr Melhem said there is a pattern of “delay and carelessness” when it came to Melbourne’s western growth corridor.
“Caroline Springs station, as I have already made clear to this chamber, remains on indefinite hold. Could it be that unlike the $8 billion East-West link these much-needed infrastructure projects are not on the agenda simply because there are not as many votes up for grabs in the West?”
He also called on the Roads Minister Terry Mulder to improve infrastructure in growth areas like the Melton and Wyndham in order to provide a forward vision for infrastructure in the West.
