SUNSHINE Hospital’s next step of development is underway with the Minister of Health announcing the opening of tenders for the $15.1 million expansion.
The expansion of services at Sunshine Hospital was triggered last week when Minister for Health David Davis visited Sunshine Hospital and announced tenders were now open for building.
The $15.1 million project is set to deliver additional critical services, five additional labour delivery rooms and future capacity for cardiology services.
“The tender for this project is open and we are looking forward to very competitive bids,” Mr Davis said.
Mr Davis said tenders were open to build and fit out 13 new critical care beds; build capacity for two new cardiac catheter labs; as well as for the construction of two new lift shafts to connect the critical unit to the emergency department and radiological services.
“We look forward to see the project come forward hopefully within the next 12 months to deliver what will be a great outcome for Sunshine and the West,” he said.
Mr Davis also congratulated Western Heath for their work in completing the new dedicated pregnancy stay unit which is opening soon.
The unit will have five examination beds, three observation chairs and four consulting/procedure rooms.
“This will also be of great value to the many women in this area who are preparing to give birth at Sunshine Hospital,” Mr Davis said.
Mr Davis said the further step in development of the hospital also included a dedicated standalone ambulatory dialysis unit which was currently being built and expected to be completed by the end of year.
“Around 5400 babies are expected to be born at Sunshine Hospital this year alone,” Mr Davis said.
“These works are about meeting the needs of the community today while building capacity for the fast growing Western Suburbs into the future,” he said.
“The Victorian Coalition Government knows how important it is to keep up with this growing community, and we are working to ensure Sunshine Hospital has the right facilities for that growth.”
