A MELTON animal rescue service was inundated with kitten litters last week as the beginning of cat breeding season began to take its toll. Western Suburbs Cat and Kitten Rescue founder Nathan Miles said the service had received 16 kittens in the last two weeks. “Twelve of these kittens are too young to eat on their own and are having to be bottle fed around the clock,” Mr Miles told Star. “This tragedy occurs every year because many cat owners continue to refuse to desex their cats. Tragically thousands of cats have to be euthanased each year in shelters across Victoria because there are simply not enough homes for them.” He urged pet owners living in Melton and Brimbank to be responsible and desex their cats. “These kittens are the lucky ones, thousands of cats across the state this season will not be so lucky.” 107710 Picture: KRISTIAN SCOTT
