ALTONA made a blistering start to the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association season, smashing Mount Waverley by 123 runs.
After winning the toss and batting, the A’s made use of the perfect conditions, hitting the bowlers to all corners of Frank Kirk Oval.
Aaron Maynard was a standout, blasting 103 not out, including four boundaries.
He was well supported by Tim Collins who made 31 and new captain Shane Jones who made 22.
At the end of its 45 overs Altona reached 5/191, a total that was never in danger of being chased down.
Fast bowling recruit Andrew McCammond made an immediate impact with the ball, dismantling the Mount Waverley middle order on his way to figures of 5/19.
Smith also returned to cause more havoc, this time taking 3/12 with the ball.
Only three Mount Waverley batsmen reached double figures as the innings came to an end on 68 in the 29th over.
The A’s will face a much tougher challenge this week when they take on last year’s runner-up Werribee.
The Tigers also made the perfect start to the VSDCA season with a seven-wicket thrashing of Box Hill.
After adding 22 for the opening stand, Box Hill lost 2/0 in quick succession to be forced onto the back foot.
The news only got worse the longer the match progressed with a second collapse coming in the middle order, this time yielding 4/10.
The tail added 47 runs to give their bowlers something to bowl at and lift the score to 9/121.
In reply, Werribee made light work of the total, reaching 3/122 in the 40th over.
