BERWICK Hawks kick-started their Victorian Women’s Football League season with a feisty 11.16 (82) to 3.6 (24) win over the visiting St Albans Spurs at Edwin Flack Reserve on Sunday.
After sustaining a heavy loss against Melbourne Uni the weekend before, Berwick answered in the best possible way with a dominant performance.
The Hawks were well led by three goals from Stephanie Brown while Bianca Jakobsson was one of the best performers across the ground.
It was a tough afternoon for the Spurs who found scoring difficult during a hard-fought second half.
St Albans failed to get a goal after half time as the Hawks took control of the ball around the ground and began to pile on the scoreboard pressure.
A four-goal final quarter was the icing on the cake for the home team as they completed the 58-point win.
Tayla Dinnucio and debutant Jess Bartolo fought hard for St Albans however, there was no stopping Berwick’s even spread of contributors.
The result sees St Albans drop to the bottom of the VWFL ladder after two rounds.
The Spurs will look to get their first win of the season this week against Darebin.
Earlier in the day, an inaccurate Berwick reserves team defeated a determined St Albans Spurs side 7.12 (54) to 2.0 (12).
