IT IS anticipated more than 1500 indigenous trees and shrubs will be planted when the Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek hold a tree planting day.
The organisation will host the event to celebrate the Planet Ark/Toyota sponsored Natioanl Tree Day 2013 on Sunday 28 July.
Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek president Geoff Mitchelmore said as part of the day, the Department of Sustainability and Environment Vision for the Werribee Plains project will be complete.
The project is funding a section of the shared bicycle/walking trail linking Kororoit Creek corridor to Brimbank, eventually Caroline Springs and also the Federation Trail to Werribee.
The tree planting and celebration will start at 10am with participants/visitors meeting at Clelland Rd, Altona North, before taking a 50-metre walk to the historic bluestone bridge for registration.
Some of the activities planned on the day include the planting of some 1500 indigenous trees and shrubs; the official celebration of the project at 12 and entertainment from Edvardo and his accordion.
There will be free face painting for the kids and a free barbecue.
“If you we among the participants that attended last year and come to this year’s planting, you will be amazed by the changes in the environment along Kororoit Creek thanks to your efforts,” Mr Mitchelmore said.
It is expected the day will attract more than 150 participants and end around 1pm.
