AT LEAST 60 people were allegedly involved in a brutal brawl at a St Albans soccer match last month, according to police.
Last week, Victoria Police issued a statement which said detectives from the Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit are investigating the “alleged brawl” which occurred on 29 June.
Police officers were called to a soccer oval in Larissa Rd around 4.50pm, after reports of a number of people fighting.
Officers who witnessed the alleged affray said they believed at least 60 people – including players, officials and spectators – were involved.
The alleged fight broke out after a Victoria State League Division Three game between the North Sunshine Eagles and Sporting Whittlesea.
When police arrived at the soccer oval, many of the alleged brawlers fled the scene.
However, a 19-year-old man and a 54-year-old man were injured during the alleged fight.
Both males suffered facial injuries and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.
In June last year, a brawl allegedly broke out at a soccer match between the Sunshine Heights Western Tigers and Tullamarine City.
Players from both teams were injured at the Tullamarine game, after a female fan allegedly used a racist taunt in an attempt to intimidate a Sunshine Heights player.
The player allegedly told the fan to be quiet, but was knocked unconscious after trying to defend himself against around six opposition players and fans.
The Sunshine Heights player allegedly used a corner post to defend himself.
His teammate was also allegedly beaten into unconsciousness in the ensuing fight.
Police said they wished to speak to anyone who had information about the St Albans incident or who might know the identity of anyone involved.
