ONE passionate 19-year-old will use his voice and ideas to make the issues of young people in the West heard by the Victorian Government.
Alejandro Zambrano recently took up his post among 18 other young people from across the state as a member of the Victorian Government’s Youth Advisory Committee – Involve.
Minister for Youth Affairs Ryan Smith said the members would provide a direct conduit between young people and the government, helping shape a range of youth policies and raising issues of concern to young people.
Alejandro said he wanted to meet like-minded individuals who were active in their respective communities and play an active role in directly informing the Victorian Government about the issues important to young people in the Western Metropolitan Region.
“A highlight in being a member of the Involve committee is that it serves as a vital mechanism for the voices of youth in Victoria to be heard,” he said.
“It provides the committee the opportunity to represent the “voices of our peers” to directly influence the initial steps in decision-making, made by the Victorian Government, with regards to policy direction to support young Victorians.”
The elected 18 to 25 year old representative from Altona remembers joining the Hobsons Bay Future Leaders Unite in 2009.
“It has continuously been a goal of mine to positively impact my local community.”
The RMIT University Bachelor of Business (International Business) student said he eagerly lookedforward to his one year and half tenure with the Involve Committee.
“Particularly as my role involves going out to talk to other young people about ‘what they think’ and bringing this information back to the meetings.”
