MICHAEL Ward will be shaken but not stirred when he steps on stage this week.
The Spotswood resident is co-creator of ‘Bond-A-Rama!’ a comedy show opening at Chapel off Chapel on Wednesday.
The show has four actors who recreate the Bond films including car chases, space battles and ninja abseiling.
“We take all the best bits from the 22 Bond films and cram them together on stage in an hour and a bit,” Mr Ward said.
Mr Ward said he became a Bond fanatic after seeing ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ during 1977.
“Around this time the Lotus Esprit, Bond’s famous underwater car, was brought to Australia as part of the Melbourne Motor Show. Thrilling times for an 11-year-old,” he said.
Now a father of three, Mr Ward said his daughter and sons were not yet old enough to watch the 007 films.
“They know the name James Bond, not unexpected when their Dad is a Bond nut, but they’re a bit too young right now to see bad guys getting electrocuted in baths or Bond bedding a woman he’s met just five minutes earlier,” he said.
Mr Ward nominated his favourite Bond gadget as the gondola which converts into a hovercraft from ‘Moonraker’ and Sean Connery as his favourite bond actor.
“With 007 I share a brutish masculinity and a way with a witty quip. No Scottish accent, though,” he said.
Mr Ward said ‘Bond-A-Rama!’ would also feature ‘a special video cameo’ from Australian actor George Lazenby who played Bond in ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’.
‘Bond-A-Rama’ will be on at Chapel off Chapel, 12 Little Chapel St, Prahran, from October 17 until November 9. See www.chapeloffchapel.com.au for more information.
