Win for education

TWO of the former Mowbray College campuses have been sold to educational institutions.
Only days after Star revealed western suburbs based millionaire and Western Institute of Technology CEO Intaj Kahn, purchased the abandoned Caroline Springs campus for $6.73 million, it was confirmed that an independent Werribee school was successful in securing the Melton campus on Centenary Ave.
Heathdale Christian College Principal Reynald Tibben said the school, which is currently home to around 1250 students, hopes to open its Melton campus by 2014.
Mr Tibben said initially the school would cater for kindergarten to Year 4 students with the hope to expand in the future.
He said the Christian college was a long-established educational institution in Werribee and he believed it was important that parents in the West had a range of schooling options for their children, including a private education.
“We believe Melton has a very similar demographic to Wyndham, so we’re well versed on what is needed in the area,” Mr Tibben said.
“I believe parents will welcome the news.”
Speculation surrounds the Brookside campus, which Star believes was obtained by Grace Child Care Centre, which would confirm rumours that it would be turned into a preschool facility.
Mowbray College went into liquidation at the end of May after it was revealed the school was facing debts of $18 million.
The closure left more than 1000 students stranded and 222 teachers unemployed.
