BRIMBANK residents were treated to a grassroots gardening day last weekend as environmental leaders from across the city urged them to take a more sustainable approach to the environment.
The day, which featured guided tours of gardens, composting, practical planting and natural pest control demonstrations, was part of an intensive eight-week program sponsored by Brimbank Council.
Kings Park resident Paul Dainton said the course changed his outlook and his approach to his surrounds, particularly when it came to energy consumption.
“It has made me think of even small things like the TV and radio being on standby or plugged into the wall,” Mr Dainton said.
“If everyone comes together and has a more sustainable approach to the environment, it will make a difference.”
The green thumb encouraged residents to do simple things, like planting trees in their gardens.
He said the intensive program gave him the tools to work with other community members and offer advice on important environmental issues.
