CONCERNED residents gathered at Altona North Community Library last week to discuss the dust caused by Altona North Quarry.
The meeting was organised by community group No More Dust in collaboration with Greens Upper House representative for the West Metropolitan Region Colleen Hartland MLC.
A spokesperson for Ms Hartland’s office told Star that the office was contacted by the quarry’s lawyer who alleged Ms Hartland was defaming the company by circulating a flyer that stated “residents of Altona North are inhaling dust from crushed concrete and other materials”.
“She (the lawyer) asked for information to back up the statement in the brochure,” the spokesperson said. “She said she was investigating whether the allegations in the brochure were defamatory.”
Geoff Mitchelmore from Friends of Kororoit Creek gave a presentation at the meeting that stated the dust issue was in part due to trucks entering and leaving the area. Susan Carter from the EPA also gave a presentation and said the EPA didn’t have the area on their radar because they receive so few reports.
