Revved up for racing

MELTON resident Peter Kapiris will race along the Calder Park track in his 1959 Dodge Saratoga on Saturday.
He will take part in the Spring HorsePower Challenge, which will include the Australian Eighth-mile (201 metres) Doorslammer Championship round.
Four former Australian Top Doorslammer champions will contest the 16-car field, including Victor Bray in a 1957 Chevrolet Belair, Ben Bray driving a 2005 Holden Monaro CV8Z and Gary Phillips in a 1953 Studebaker.
Mr Kapiris said the last time the Doorslammers raced over the eighth-mile at Calder, in January 2009, the event was a huge success.
“We have raced over the eighth-mile twice, both times in Victoria, at Calder and Mildura and both events pulled large crowds,” Kapiris said.
Qualifying for the Spring HorsePower Challenge will start at 8.30am and elimination racing will be from 3pm.
Spectator entry to the event is $40 for people over 18 years, children 14-17 years $20, a family (two adults and two children) $100. Children 14 and under free.
