WITH the festive season well and truly over, many Brimbank residents may still be reeling in the aftermath of over-indulging.
That’s why Duke Street Community House has launched its 2012 Healthiest Winner program and is calling on participants to shed those extra kilos and make good on their New Year’s resolution.
A spin-off of the popular television show the Biggest Loser, organiser Lana Bedford said the program would offer participants a genuine weight loss program without the humiliating weigh-ins, quick fixes and pressure.
Ms Bedford said the program, which will begin in February, will include walking groups, a gentle exercise program, inspiring guest speakers on topics like motivation, stress management, depression and anxiety, managing chronic pain, mindfulness and meditation, diabetes and nutrition and food skills.
There will also be a healthy Masterchef cooking class.
Ms Bedford said the program will assist locals who constantly struggle with their weight and she said many residents have been calling for a healthy lifestyle plan which offers advice on weight management without the pressure many other programs deliver.
The program will run during the school terms of 2012 and to be eligible to win the title of ‘The Healthiest Winner’ participants will be asked to register and receive a Healthiest Winner kit pack.
Each week those taking part can fill in their diary recording their weight, physical activity and food choices.
At the end of the year a Healthiest Winner will be named and a booklet of success stories will also be compiled and distributed to inspire other Brimbank residents to get active, lose weight and keep well.
Anyone interested should contact Duke Street Community House on 9311 9973.
