Park life is safe

MELTON Shire Council has received almost $10,000 to secure Macpherson Park Oval Pavillion as part of a $2.4 million government boost to safety.
The council received $9,900 to install three heavy security doors and latches at the Melton park in an effort to reduce the number of burglaries and damage at the site.
The announcement was part of a host of public safety infrastructure grants announced by Crime Prevention Minister Andrew McIntosh last week. Other projects include the installation of CCTV systems, lighting and urban design initiatives.
“The government recognises that local councils and communities are best-placed to develop strategies for addressing local crime problems and these grants will support them to do so,” Mr McIntosh said.
“Local communities can actively contribute to crime prevention by identifying local crime problems, providing locally suitable solutions and promoting local involvement,” Mr McIntosh said.
