WINNERS of the inaugural Pixel8 Photo Competition will be announced this weekend at an awards party for all entrants at The Substation.
Werribee-based band The Take Off will be one of two bands performing at the awards ceremony with Altona band My Lasting Reply also playing at the event.
The Take Off’s lead singer Pras Sayakhot told Star they were excited to have been considered to play at the event.
“We always do a lot of local shows for Hobsons Bay,” he said.
“We’re really excited to be playing with My Lasting Reply – I’ve known their lead singer since Year 8.
“We didn’t realise they were also playing until I saw the poster – it will be great to catch up.”
Pras said The Take Off officially got together in 2008, but started to get serious in 2010 securing committed members and landing gigs.
“At the moment, we’ve got a new live set and we’re in pre-production for a new debut album,” Pras said.
“It should be done by end of year, and we’re hoping to release a single and our first film clip by July.”
Hobsons Bay mayor Michael Raffoul said entries were of a very high standard and showcased what makes Hobsons Bay such a great place, its people and colourful landmarks.
“The awards party will celebrate by announcing the winners of the three Canon 1000DTKIS EOS 10.1MP SLR digital cameras with twin lens kit and 8GB memory card, vouchers and the school prize, as well as enjoying musical entertainment from The Take-Off and My Lasting Reply and a barbecue.” The Pixel8 Photo Competition Awards Party will be held this Saturday 21 May from 1pm to 4pm at The Substation, 1 Market Street, Newport.
