WHEN Natalie Monaco was young she spent every weekend making cakes with her Nanna.
And when she wasn’t baking a sweet treat she was watching her Italian mother cook a feast for the family.
So it’s no surprise the Taylors Hill resident now prepares delectable delights for countless happy customers each week.
It all began last year when Natalie made a cake for her cousin’s first birthday party.
The circus theme cake was a huge hit with party-goers and family and friends started asking the 24-year-old to make cakes for their occasions. Demand grew and Sweet Treats by Nat was created.
“At the party all the children were coming up to me and asking me to make their cake,” she said.
“There’s been a massive growth since then and with my Facebook page the word kept spreading.”
The self-taught baker was forced to leave her full-time job because of the demand and has even appeared in Bride magazine which she described as an unbelievable thrill.
But it’s not just cakes that Nat bakes. The business offers all kinds of treats for children and adults alike, including cupcakes, cake pops, cookies and even dessert buffet tables.
“Every day I get to do something different. That’s what I love about my job.”
She said nothing is as rewarding as seeing the smile on a happy customer’s face when they look at their cake for the first time.
Even better than that is the look on children’s faces when they see their favourite character come to life in fondant and frosting.
“I made a cake for a first birthday party with the Secret Garden theme. The little girl was so excited when she saw the cake she nearly jumped out of her mother’s arms and into it!”
