SHE shot a chef and now she is in the running to win a $2500 cash prize.
‘Shoot the Chef’ is a photography competition which is open for amateur and professional photographers across the country in which they enter a photo of a chef.
Whether it is a professional chef or someone cooking at home Australian photographers have been encouraged to shoot a chef and Williamstown resident Donabel Lapid has done just that.
While visiting the small town of Potosi in Bolivia, she took a photo of a woman cooking traditional food at a market.
“This street food vendor was the only one left cooking when all the other stalls had packed up,” Ms Lapid said.
Ms Lapid said she particularly liked this photo because it was a true representation of her local surroundings at the time.
“I chose to enter it because it was not a staged shot or made up but a genuine local vendor cooking one of her last meals before the cold and the darkness of night ended another trading day,” she said.
Ms Lapid said she liked the look on the woman’s face most because it showed hardship, but also a smile which showed her pleasure in cooking.
Ms Lapid, who takes photos as a hobby, has a chance to win either the Critics’ Choice Award – where judges will be looking for the best combination of skill and creative interpretation – or the People’s Choice Award based on online votes from the public.
She hopes to win the cash prize which she will put towards a new camera.
