Heritage gets new lease of life

WORKS to enhance and restore the condition of 25 heritage properties in Brimbank are underway, thanks to the latest round of Brimbank Heritage Assistance Fund grants.
The Brimbank Heritage Assistance Fund, which was launched in 2009, provides financial support to private individuals, community groups and organisations for restoration and maintenance works to heritage properties throughout the municipality.
In 2011, 25 successful applicants received funding to carry out works that improve the structural condition and integrity of contributory buildings, which restore altered features to their original appearance, or generally improve the appearance of the property.
Chair of Brimbank Administrators, Peter Lewinsky, said the fund formed part of the council’s ongoing commitment to conserving and enhancing the city’s heritage.
“Brimbank has a vibrant and rich history, which is reflected in the many historic buildings and places found throughout the city.
“By providing financial assistance to owners of these important heritage places, we are helping to maintain our city’s heritage.”
The Heritage Assistance Fund will continue in 2012 with the next round of funding to commence mid-year.
All owners of heritage-listed places are notified of the funding opportunity each year.
