IT was a case of objective one complete for Kealba Green Gully in its match against Buckley Park on Saturday in the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association.
The Cougars went into the clash wanting to ensure they batted out their 80 overs and they did everything but, reaching 173 before losing wicket number 10 in the 79th over.
Kealba captain/coach Andrew Lambropoulos said he was happy with the way his side performed against a good opposition.
“There were probably five or six guys who really stood up when needed. I think Tristan Krizanic was one guy who is really taking some good steps and is becoming a mature cricketer which is great to see,” Lambropoulos said.
“Balraj Randhawa was another one who really stood up under pressure. It was a tough situation and he really grinded it out so I was really happy with those two.”
“It was tough going out in the middle. The track played a little up and down and their bowling was pretty tight and the outfield was also a little long.
From what I’ve heard it doesn’t get cut much shorter than that so hopefully it’s the same.”
Buckley Park will begin its run chase this week and will be aiming to keep an unbeaten start to the new season alive for another round.
“They are a quality side. They have a quality batting line up with good experience so really we are just going to have to nut it out,” Lambropoulos said.
“We always have close games with Buckley and we respect them and I think they respect us so it’s going to be a tough grind. We will have to fight it out and expect to be around for the full 80 overs and hopefully we are on top at the end.”
A win this week could potentially see the Cougars jump to first on the NWMCA ladder.
