A local resident and worker for Planet Kids, Mr Jerome understands the importance of community spirit and a sense of belonging. That’s why he, along with his colleagues, has created a multitude of activities offering school children a chance to have fun with neighbours and friends.
Youngsters even got a chance to show off their cooking skills as part of the microchef competition.
Inspired by the hit show Masterchef, 140 primary school aged children signed up to compete to see who could cook up a storm and were even allowed to use the local pizza shop’s kitchen to hone their skills.
Pizza wasn’t the only thing on the menu. with pasta dishes, scones and an array of delectable delights cooked by the kids.
Mr Jerome said the program, which has also hosted outdoors movie events, showed youth in the area that there were people in the community that cared about them and wanted to see them have fun.
And the club is popular for families across the western suburbs.
“I have had families come from as far as Werribee,” Mr Jerome said.
“There are a different range of families. Single mums come and single dads, carers and mums and dads with their kids.”
