The Taylors Lakes resident has been producing songs at his own recording studio and repairing guitars for the past two decades and has worked alongside celebrities like Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick and Mike Tramp from White Lion as well as Australian idol contestants Mark Spano and Dean Geyer.
It’s a far cry from his teen years when he worked for the 1980s music chain store Brashs, but he revealed that’s where his love of music thrived.
Growing up on the sound of rock legends Van Halen, Mr Gonthier remembers sitting in his room and strumming for hours on his guitar.
“I remember in the ’80s I sent away for a $60 VHS to teach me how to play guitar,” he laughed.
“I grew up on rock-and-roll and it’s my life. I have poured everything into music.
“People are passionate about music and especially about their guitars, so there is a lot of pressure when I am repairing them. But I put a lot of love into it.”
Music is also an integral part of his family life, with wife Caroline a singer. The pair perform as Tou Che, playing ’70s and ’80s covers at weddings, parties and corporate functions.
