TIP Top Butchers in Laverton North has unveiled one of Melbourne’s largest solar systems.
Last Thursday the business unveiled the solar installation that is one of the largest rooftop solar arrays in Australia.
Installed over eight weeks, the final system was switched on by the company’s joint CEO’s, Paul DeBortoli and Carlo DeBortoli on 4 December, 2013.
It was officially launched by MP Ryan Smith in front of excited Tip Top butchers staff last Thursday. The system will produce enough solar electricity to power 50 residential homes for decades to come.
The project included replacement of factory lighting with the latest in LED technology and will offset over 515 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. This is the equivalent of taking 130 cars off the road each year.
It is expected the solar system will slash electricity bills at the Tip Top Butchers facility by close to a third.
Tip Top Butchers CEO Paul DeBortoli said they are proud to invest in this large scale Melbourne solar power project.
“We are making an important contribution to de-carbonising our economy, while at the same time meeting the challenges of rising energy costs,” he said. “We are proud to be leading the way”.
Star asked Mr Smith to comment but he did not respond before deadline.
