Stink raised

THE EPA is investigating two businesses after receiving complaints from Caroline Springs residents about bad smells.
Environment Protection Authority officers have visited Boral Deer Park and Pinegro as part of ongoing investigations into the problem.
An EPA spokesperson said a number of potential odour sources were identified at the sites.
The spokesperson said the EPA is working with the businesses to find solutions to the potential issues and will issue formal notices reflecting the agreed actions.
Caroline Springs couple Steve and Christiana said they have noticed a “stench” in the last few months, but said it is not on a regular basis.
“I don’t know what it is but it must be the winds direction pushing it towards us” Christiana told Star.
“It’s not on a daily basis – sometimes it is. But it’s horrid.”
The EPA spokesperson assured residents that while the Boral Deer Park and Pinegro sites may be contributing to the odour experienced by residents, they will continue to monitor the situation to identify other possible sources.
The EPA encouraged residents to continue to be aware of the situation and said it would rely on the community to help gauge the effectiveness of the solutions.
