HOBSONS BAY Food Safety Award winners were presented with their awards and prizes last week.
Mayor Sandra Wilson congratulated the five winners at an ordinary council meeting last Tuesday
Baby Bells Child Care Centre, UCAN Café, Providorable Fine Foods & Gifts, Zero Lam and Williamstown Primary School Canteen were the chosen few out of approximately 650 registered premises in the municipality.
The Food Safety Awards also recognised 238 recipients of ‘In the Running’ certificates.
Cr Wilson said it was great to see businesses recognised for their high standards of hygiene.
“Food Safety is taken seriously at Hobsons Bay and we think it is important to reward and promote excellence in performance standards,” Cr Wilson said.
“With Hobsons Bay home to so many food businesses, the council works very closely with all of them to ensure that compliance with food safety standards is taken very seriously.”
One of the five winners, Baby Bells, is a privately-owned child care centre by Brian Day, who was proud to have received the prestigious award.
Kristina Glavan is the cook at the child care centre, and started her role in early 2011.
Ms Glavan caters for children with special needs including Anaphylaxis, allergies and numerous other dietary restrictions and requirements.
The child care centre also uses halal products to cater for the cultural needs of their largely multicultural population.
“It is an honour to be commended for our food safety and we will ensure to continue to maintain a high level of standard when it comes to food handling and preparation,” Baby Bells director Tania Boddington said.
As a reward for their efforts, the winners all received complimentary food premises registration for the next year and promotion on the Hobsons Bay website and social media.
