AN Australian premiere of a play that is expected to fascinate and absorb audiences will be performed by The Williamstown Little Theatre.
In a journey that spans 200 years, 33 Variations by Moises Kaufman and directed by WLT’s Chris Baldock is an inspiring waltz between the past and the present, fact and speculation, art and life.
Assistant director Katherine Hawken said the play was first performed at the Arena Stage in Washington in 2007, and opened on Broadway in 2009 starring Jane Fonda in her first Broadway role in 46 years.
“It is a tremendous play,” Ms Hawken said.
“It takes a deep look into the parallels between past and present and how relationships between people are forever changing and enhancing life and love as we know it,” Ms Hawken said.
“Once Chris Baldock read it, he was impressed by its wit and depth, and how Kaufman wove the music into it.”
Audiences are invited to experience the Australian premiere of this extraordinary play about passion, parenthood and the moments of beauty that can change a life.
Ms Hawken said drama, memory and music combined to transport its audiences form present day New York to 19th century Austria.
“It took a couple of years for us to be given the rights, and we now present the Australian premiere.”
Ms Hawken said the result of two days of lengthy auditions was an amazing cast of seven versatile actors who had been working hard in rehearsals for more than five weeks.
The season for 33 Variations will start on 18 April and finish on 4 May. For bookings, visit wlt.org.au or contact 98859678.
