PRIMROSE Holland will do her bit to combat youth homelessness by sleeping at one of Melbourne’s most iconic sports venues.
The 22-year-old Williamstown resident will be among more than 1500 people over 18 who will spend a night at the MCG as part of Melbourne City Mission Sleep at the ‘G’ event.
The night is about raising vital funds to help end youth homelessness.
Ms Holland heard about the initiative through the organisation itself, which she has volunteered for over the past three years.
Ms Holland, who is a hairdresser and make-up artist by trade, was instrumental in offering her services to the Melbourne City Missions Frontyard Youth Services.
Frontyard Youth Services work together to address the physical, social and emotional needs of homeless young people.
Ms Holland offered her service as a hairdresser and currently volunteers at Melbourne City Mission Melbourne Academy.
The academy delivers educational programs to some of Melbourne’s most disengaged students.
Ms Holland said her work at one on Melbourne’s elite salons motivated her to want to utilise her skills to help the less fortunate.
“I have hair dressing skills and the best way I can use that to my ability is to be doing something to help other people,” Ms Holland said.
“I felt I could be doing something which helped the not so privileged social group of Melbourne.”
She said she looks forward to the challenge that will come with sleeping at the MCG.
“It’s going to be quite an experience to see what it will feel like sleeping rough.”
Tickets are still available for the Sleep at the ‘G event on 18 April. To book visit www.SleepAtTheG.com.au
