ALTONA Meadows youth Natalie Tarle said entering the Pixel8 Photographic Competition inspired her to explore her interest in photography in a fun and creative way.
Pixel8 is a photographic project for young people aged between 12 and 18 who live, work or go to school in Hobsons Bay to give their impressions of the area.
Time is running out to enter the annual competition.
The 16-year-old was the 2012 winner of the competition’s ‘Community Well-being Award’ that encouraged entrants to capture any scene that showcased the great aspects of the local community.
“Let the Sky Blush” by Miss Tarle captured the 100 steps to Federation, a stone staircase in Truganina Park, Altona that she would walk with her mother to see the views across the bay and out to Melbourne.
The image captured the “stray rays of sun (as they) continue to burn lustrously through the clouds intent on blocking the sky … as it signals the inevitable conclusion of another day.”
An avid photographer, Miss Trale said she was excited to discover the competition.
“I looked at past winners’ photos and they looked like something I could aspire to do,” she said.
“It was a good starting point – it gave me a lot of confidence to enter more competitions in the future.”
She encouraged others to give it a go. There are also great prizes to be won including a digital SLR camera.
“It’s worth entering because you will have fun taking photos.”
“Regardless of the outcome it’s nice to see what other people have entered and bring a bit of yourself to the competition.”
The project is supported by Star and a number of other organisations including the Victoria Police and Hobsons Bay City Council.
