TOWERING above the plains between Keilor and Melton is a beautiful six-storey working Dutch windmill known as the landmark of the West.
The Windmill Gardens Reception Restaurant and function venue is an original design.
It was created by a Dutch migrant, Leo Withoos, who came to Australia as a child and had visions from an early age of one day building an authentic Dutch windmill.
The materials used were obtained from Victorian demolition sites, with some materials over 100 years old.
Set on 11 acres, the complex provides fine cuisine and is surrounded by landscaped gardens, cascading waterfalls, walkways and picturesque lakes that make every occasion memorable.
Current owners David and Sofie Atanasovski have proudly continued developing the property, cuisine and ambience.
The restaurant features a fine a la carte menu comprising a varied selection of local and international food.
Staff also cater for weddings, engagements, christenings, communions and private and corporate events.
This iconic landmark is open from Thursday to Sunday for lunch and dinner and from Monday to Sunday for private and corporate functions.
