FASHION, music and sport will combine to raise awareness for mental health when the Pobblebonk Festival hits Brimbank this weekend.
A joint initiative of Brimbank Rotary and the Norwood Association, Rotary vice president David Bennett said the groups wanted to team up to provide entertainment and support to the community.
“We wanted to create something for the youth of Brimbank,” Mr Bennett said.
“And we also wanted to create awareness that there are people out there and places out there that people can go to if they need help with mental health.”
A mental health forum, featuring Olympian Kyle Vander Kuyp, psychiatrists, carers and service providers, will discuss living with mental illness and where people can go for help.
Copperfield College students have put together a fashion parade using clothes sourced from the Brotherhood of St Laurence op-shops, while their school band will provide entertainment.
Rap groups, Bosnian folk dancers, East African diabolo acrobats, jumping castles, face painting, rides, food and market stalls will also keep residents entertained.
Sporting fans can also get their kicks with six soccer clubs competing for the inaugural Pobblebonk Cup, which boasts a $1000 prize for the champions.
The Pobblebonk Festival takes place from 10am to 4pm at Kevin Flint Memorial Reserve, Cairnlea this Sunday 23 September.
