POLICE are appealing for public assistance following a sexual assault in Melton last week.
Footscray Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team detectives have been told a 15-year-old Melton girl was walking home from work on Barries Rd in Melton at around 9.15pm on 12 February when she was approached by two men in a late-model white station wagon.
One of the men got out of the car and followed the girl into Blackwood Reserve where he sexually assaulted her.
The girl managed to break free from the man and ran to Melton Police Station to report the incident.
The man is believed to be of Southern European appearance, aged in his mid to late 30s, about 183cm tall with a medium build, balding with hair on the side of his head and distinctive top teeth.
He was wearing a light-coloured T-shirt, khaki shorts, a khaki jacket and skater shoes and spoke with a strong accent.
