A GROUP of dedicated members from the Melton Police and Melton Fire Brigade will don their running shoes this weekend all in the name of a good cause.
Seventeen members in total will take part in the Cancer Council’s Relay For Life in a bid to raise thousands of dollars for the charity.
Leading Senior Constable Jasmine Hill said members from Melton, Caroline Springs, Sunshine and Keilor Downs were taking part in the relay and will hold the baton from 4pm this Saturday to 10am the following day at Tabcorp Park.
“A lot of people have been affected by cancer,” Leading Sen Const Hill said.
“It wasn’t hard to get volunteers … there was a lot of interest because it’s such a good cause.”
Leading Sen Const Hill said it was important the community realised police were approachable and open to building strong relationships with residents and partaking in an event like the Relay for Life showed they were more than willing to put up their hand and help out.
Melton Fire Brigade volunteer Laura Rees will also get her jogging shoes on and said the decision to take part helped strengthen ties with the community.
“It’s a great way to make people realise that were not here for ourselves, but we are here for the community,” Ms Rees said.
