Patti Manolis, manager of community learning and libraries, began the annual Library Books for East Timor Trivia Night in 2004, when she received a State Library scholarship to make a study tour of libraries and community building in East Timor.
Ms Manolis began her campaign after a tour during which she saw how much the East Timorese needed books.
Cr Rice said past trivia nights raised about $60,000, and organisers hoped this year to raise about $25,000.
