Councillors set to be good

HOBSONS Bay City Council is considering a plan to conduct major upgrades to the popular Altona Sports Centre.
A feasibility study found that the basketball and the netball facilities were running at full capacity, and could not accommodate all the local teams.
The study recommended council builds two standard courts, change rooms, a storeroom and provide up to 200 extra parking spaces.
It also recommended transforming court one into a 1000-seat show court, building a multi-purpose room and redeveloping the entrance foyer, offices and reception area.
The project would cost over $10 million and be carried out in stages over several years.
Hobsons Bay mayor Carl Marsich said the centre would borrow money to finance the project, and may be eligible for help from Sport and Recreation Victoria.
“The council is considering the allocation of up to $900,000 for the redevelopment of this very important community facility,” Cr Marsich said.
