HOBSONS Bay City Council will not renew a contract with a baby capsule hire service but will promote similar services available in the marketplace.
A report presented to the council recommended promoting “the available hire of baby capsules through the open market”.
The report noted that councils rarely offer capsule hire services these days, as many private operators in the market now offer a similar service at a competitive price.
Should the council wish to continue the service, an allocation of $15,000 would be required in the next budget, the report said.
Councillor Leigh Hardinge stressed that although the council would not be directly involved in capsule hire in the future, the public would still have access to hire capsules.
“The service is not being abandoned. It’s just being handed over to another service provider.”
