TWO men have been arrested following two unrelated residential burglaries in Hobsons Bay.
A 35-year-old man was arrested and charged with three counts of burglary after he allegedly broke into a Williamstown home on the 20 March.
Computers and jewellery were stolen from the Douglas Parade property and police believe the offender acted alone.
He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 4 May.
A 19-year-old Yarraville man was arrested and charged after he allegedly broke into a Spotswood home on 16 March when a computer and a quantity of cash was stolen.
He was remanded in custody and appeared at the Sunshine Magistrates Court on 8 April where he was granted bail and will reappear on 21 April.
Detective Senior Sergeant Kerin Moloney said Hobsons Bay’s Crime Investigation Unit treat residential burglaries with the highest priority due to the impact they have on the victims.
“It’s important that people call Triple-zero upon observing any suspicious behaviour,” he said.
Det Sen Sgt Moloney added residential burglaries are often fuelled by drug problems and committed by repeat offenders.
“Heroin is a driving force behind burglaries.
“We will continue to put a strong emphasis on any crimes especially burglaries and crimes against the person.”
