AN OUTSTANDING opening quarter from the Werribee Centrals has carried them to a 28-point victory over Winchelsea in the Geelong and District Football League.
The Centrals kicked eight first quarter goals, and kept their opponents scoreless to set up a 56-point quarter time lead.
Winchelsea began the difficult task of pegging the margin back in the second quarter. They kicked six goals and were then able to restrict Werribee to just four, to bring the deficit back to just over 40 points.
However, any possibility of a comeback was snuffed out in the third term when the Centrals were again able to extend their lead. They kicked three goals but importantly, restricted Winchelsea to just one and ensured the margin would be too great to chase down in the last quarter.
Craig Rosenzweig was the star for Werribee, kicking seven goals to bring his season tally to 37. He was named best on ground in the 16.14 (110) to 12.10 (82) victory.
Craig Hardingham, Vincent Leung, Simon Calbert and Nathan Lovell were all outstanding for Werribee in the win.
The Centrals are in third place on the GDFL ladder, and will be confident of having another win next week when they take on seventh-placed Bannockburn.
In the reserves competition, the Centrals have completed one of their biggest wins for the year over Winchelsea, 17.13 (115) to 3.3 (21).
Dean Giarrusso was outstanding in just his second match for the year and finished with four goals.
The Centrals now sit in seventh place on the ladder, and the win will keep alive their finals hopes.
